Draft EIS Comment Period Concludes

a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Proposed Improvement Activities at the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport has been prepared and was available for public review and comment from August 22 to October 14, 2008.

A public information meeting and hearing was held Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Westmark Hotel Sitka in Sitka, Alaska. The purpose of this meeting was to provide information on the DEIS and allow for public discussion and comments.  Additional meetings were held with tribal organizations and federal, state, and local agency representatives to discuss the DEIS.

Public and agency comments were received at the October 2 public hearing, in writing to the FAA during the public comment period, online through this web site, and by email to the project team.  The comment period for the DEIS ended on October 14. Hard copies of the DEIS are still available for review at four locations as well as online here.

The project team is now reviewing and responding to comments received on the DEIS and preparing the Final EIS.  All comments received on the DEIS will be reviewed and included in the Final EIS.  The FAA expects to release the Final EIS in early 2009 with a Record of Decision to follow shortly thereafter.
